To ensure your dog's continued health and to comply with veterinary best practices, we require an annual heartworm test for all dogs over 6 months of age to keep their heartworm prevention prescription active.

This simple blood test is essential for two reasons:

Early Detection: It confirms your dog is heartworm-free before beginning or continuing prevention. Giving heartworm prevention to a dog that is already infected can cause serious health complications.
Peace of Mind: Even with regular prevention, a small chance of infection remains. An annual test ensures that if your dog has been exposed, we can detect and treat it early, before the disease progresses.
